I don't understand nature, i never will...

Waking up, the ceiling were pretty damp, and the warm upwind clashed through my fur and nose

he told me that no predators were in-sight, or you know, 'in-nose'

no wolfs, no foxes, and hopefully no birds of pray.

Quite the lovely day to be alive skittering through the tall grass, searching for fruits and berries

with the morning dew washing my body.

Sometime i wonder where the dew come from, a thought that linger in my mind as quickly as i smell a pair of red shiny cherries

they were shiny and delicious like if they were created just for my delight, because they were of course!

and i know that the next time i blinked a huge rabbit appeared in front of me out of nowhere thinking probably the same.

Curse me and my stupid blinking eyes, "take one more step and i will claw you to death" i said with one loud growl.

"sure" the rabbit said nodding then proceeding to sit on my face "do you like the smell of my butt?", I want to be honest, i really liked the smell,

still, he was stealing all of my berries, in complete darkness I swung my tail in front of his muzzle

making him sneeze and throw up one of the cherries that he was already chewing.

Quickly freeing myself i picked up the remains of the chewed up cherry and ate it for myself.

"take that!", i said proudly gulping the food, i bet he never saw that coming

"that's disgusting" he said, totally envy and with an empty stomach.

But then the strangest thing that bunny said to me "predators are around, how about we split the loot?"

"like... Each one in half?", he stared at me confused like I was the one who spoke no-sense,

he wanted to take the time it toke to split a berry

yet he was concerned about predators

I said "How about i take the berries, and you go back grazing grass, you grazer... rabbit" abruptly he take some of the berries and ran away,

I did the same pursuing her, that thief!

I ran and ran, through branches and foliages, reaching some sort of ruins, his home maybe?

It looked like no creature alive had attended this place's dusk in ages, no living being aside for some songbirds as ever touched this place.

A strong wind slipped through my nose and through the structure cracks, composing a odd, almost solemn hymn.

i was kinda stunned that such massive structure was present in nature.

but dazing by the melody a vice across my ear dragged me down a hole, it was the rabbit!

"don't stay there spreading your odor downwind close at my bolt hole, do you want to get us both killed?"

Don't get me wrong, he was kinda right, but still, if he didn't rob me of my food i would never have followed him.

"hey, ok ouch ouch... i get it, stop chewing my ears, sorry for breaking into your home, but you need to give those berries back to me"

annoyed like he wasn't his fault he said "it's not my home, is just one of the many bolt quick to the warren, beside i already left you with half of that berries, stop annoying me!"

What was he talking about half? He toke me two berries and then ran away and he was like

"yeah, two berries, four divided by two is two", "But I didn't had four berries i had Some Berries"

his demeanor changed seemingly more calm "drop one of your berries here and i will drop one as well, do it until we are out of berries, i will show you one incredible thing"

And i fool you not, what showed me was really weird, it felt like a thunder striking the same tree twice.

"whoa, that was a funny coincidence, we finished putting our berries at the same time",

"that is just half the magic, now each time I pick one you will pick one as well, so we can have the same number of berries"

I never thought of this like that, that is incredible, with this technique we could be able to evenly divide any amount of food, wait... "divide".

My clouded mind opened welcoming this divine knowledge. "I get it now..."

"You are a smart rabbit, still, i don't get how you are using numbers to divide evenly without the latter process",

"yeah this is what we leporids call, 'advance calculus' " brushing it off, and then bolting in the tunnel.

I guess despite the explanation My mind was still struggling with this concept of 'dividing numbers'

Trying to processing this divine insight ended up only hurting my head

burning my little brain, i am sure if i continued to mull over this calculus thing it would almost charred it.

'Calculus', 'Divide' this are hard concept with an even harder explanation,

I could do nothing but take it as a fact of life.

Just a bunch of concept that always existed, like this structure here

Luckily, i would never have the need to understand them

Eating and surviving is the only thing that matters

and of course some kinship between other creature would not hurt

knowledge is not really a thing that make me happy nor sad

but witnessing those intricacy, well, is kind of amusing.

i wonder if this structure purpose were always producing such beautiful song

I think it is, And in the end, what is the difference between my interpretation and the one

from others, is not like i don't know i am probably wrong,

Leaving with more question than answer i know i had to depart as well,

before my own smell trail vanishes and get lost in these new territories.

I nosed outside, a cold downwind ruffled my muzzle and my nose, i wondered where winds itself came from

but like numbers and the very earth below, i know they always existed, it had always been there,

as simple as the meaning of life.

Looking back before bolting away, i watched the ruins, and even them, i thought, no animals could build such thing,

it had to simply always existed there.

One day after another

"I slept so much"
"Yeah, me too, sleeping is so tiiiring... i hope our master get back, I am CRAVING for some crunchy seeds"
"well it will get back, it always does"
"yeah but sooner! in fact i want those seeds NOW!"
"what do you mean sooner, you mean before, when the light outside start to go dim?"
"SOONEEER, heck, sometime our master doesn't even leave us, why can't be like that all the times"
"who know, it seems to be related to the light outside, sometime he is here even when not but he is always here when they begin to fade"
"Well then, may the light shrivel in darkness then, if our master would always be here"
"how many times, did the light faded and emerged"
"more than one thousand times that for sure! it always was there, like this cage and our master"
"I think master and the light are related somehow, listen It's been awhile that i want to see what is outside this cage, maybe we could go outside and try to convince the light to never emerge again?"
"I guess we could, and your little obsession, isn't it like this cage, like, it is not just awhile, it just always existed"
"I mean, the view is quite lovely, right there everything changes, it's so strange, I wonder if everything always continued to change and everything will continue to change"
"I get you, but i prefer to being like this cage"
"as we both always existed to being cared by the master, well let's go ask the light to... "*sniff* "oh i think i smell him"
"yeah yeah, it's him, it's him!"

The two rats said wagging their tails, patiently waiting for their owner to enter their room
